Medical Coding Officer / Insurance Coordinator

Coding Certifications: Certified ICD 10AM (HIMAA/ EHE)

Job Description:

  • Ensure accurate coding and sequencing as specified by established coding principles and guidelines.
  • Ensure coders carry out timely & effective claims submission and re-submission (all areas pertaining to a hospital- ER, OP, Daycare & IP).
  • Ensure effective use of 3M software, Turbocoder tool, AR-DRG identification and H.I.S module to support reimbursement efficiency in line with physician documentation needs for an insurance claim.
  • Proven skills in use of code finder and grouping software like 3M and Turbocoder coding tool.
  • Ensuring timely, accurate, and complete clinical data for direct activity reporting, quality initiatives, billing, reimbursement, utilization and patient information systems.
  • Reviewing for document deficiencies and communicates policies and guidelines to physicians to improve documentation; including direct interaction with the relevant clinicians.
  • Investigating and resolving problems, complaints and incidents occurring within the coding unit.
  • Validating reported and encoded information with the most accurate information.
  • Creating reports on un-billed records due to documentation and registration errors.
  • Review Rejection trends based on denial codes due to medical necessity & other rejection areas, suggest corrective improvements and education where it required.
  • Advanced principles and practices of medical record keeping.
  • Advanced medical terminology, anatomy & physiology as well as the states, sequences, progression & description of disease as they apply to medical record coding and abstraction.
  • Maintaining of logs and productivity records on daily basis.
  • Meet the targets and KPI's set by the supervisor or manager.
  • Conduct analysis and report any trends to the supervisor.
  • Must be well versed on insurance coverage and standard exclusion guidelines for effective claim management needs.
  • Proficiency in office application (Excel, word, PowerPoint).

Job Requirement: 

  • Certified ICD 10AM (HIMAA/ EHE) Medical Coder will be an added advantage.
  • Experience in auditing medical claims will be an added advantage.
  • Preferred candidates with medical background.
  • Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
